A collaboration with Black Sheep Creative to deliver an accessible upgrade to Hamilton City Libraries allowing for a better user experience.
Libraries are integral parts of the community and it's amazing really how much of a hub of activity it actually is and provides to residents.
I collaborate with a few creative agencies and this time Black Sheep Creative asked me to partner with them on this project and work on design and UX improvements to the Hamilton City Libraries website.
The kick off was meeting the team and worshipping with the Libraries team to understander their users, what gets missed and what would make the the site work better for them. From a design point of view, it wasn't a full start from scratch re-design, the challenge for me was to improve the UI of exisiting components and pages throughout the site and make them more user friendly and work harder to showcase the wide range of services the libraries have to offer.
It was refreshing and a welcome relief as well to be able to use a bit of colour and move away from the usual council colours of blue and green which I think also adds a much more modern look to the new site.
The Black Sheep team handled the project management and the development side of things and have made some huge changes in the background to make the life of those working on the site so much easier and quicker. It sounded like doing anything before was hard work. As a client, they were engaged and keen for change and improvements and I think we've managed to deliver that for them and I look forward to hearing how the new site is received by users
I think we delivered some real improvements across website accessibility and the overall user experience to really showcase what the libraries have to offer.
