What we did.

The Brief

HoopNation has long utilised touch-screen kiosks at their events to display real-time player stats, team standings, and game fixtures. For this year’s upgrade, the goal was to evolve the platform beyond the physical kiosk, making the entire experience accessible to players and fans on mobile and desktop devices.

The Challenge

The primary challenge was translating a large-format touch-screen interface into a responsive experience for smaller mobile screens. We needed to update the look to suit the the high-energy "HoopNation" brand feel while ensuring that complex data—like live points, fixtures and standings—remained legible and easy to navigate in a fast-paced tournament environment.

Our Approach

  • Direct User Observation: To truly understand the "why" behind the design, I attended events to watch first-hand how players and teams interacted with the kiosks. Observing how they searched for their next game or checked the "leading stats" provided invaluable insights for the redesign.
  • UX/UI Redesign: Based on my observations, I restyled the interface to prioritise the most-searched-for data. We focused on a "mobile-first" flow that allowed users to toggle between player stats and team standings with minimal taps.
  • Cross-Platform Consistency: We engineered the platform to be fully responsive, ensuring that whether a player was looking at a 50-inch kiosk in the stadium or their own smartphone on the sidelines, the experience was fast and intuitive.

The Result

The upgraded HoopNation in game feed has successfully bridged the gap between the event venue and the user's pocket. By focusing on real-world user behaviour, we delivered a polished, data-rich tool that enhances the tournament experience for athletes and supporters alike.
